Mayo edge Dublin in RTE TV viewing figures battle

Mayo’s dramatic All-Ireland semi-final win over Tipperary topped the RTE viewing poll at the weekend.

An average of 530,000 watched Cillian O’Connor bag a record 4-9 haul for Mayo against the Munster champions and set up a final date with Dublin on December 19.

The audience peaked at 587,000 which trumped the number who watched Dublin swat aside Cavan on Saturday night on RTE.

Dublin’s rout of Cavan on The Saturday Game Live was watched by an average of 505,000 viewers and a share of 38% of those watching TV at the time.

Numbers peaked at the end of the game with 565,000 tuning-in at 5.56pm.

Ireland’s final Guinness Series game on Saturday against Scotland drew an average audience of 312,300 and a share of 42%, peaking at 420,000 while last night’s FAI Cup Final was watched by an average of 121,000 with a share of 10%. The audience peaked at 206,000 in extra-time as Dundalk sealed victory.

This Saturday sees the women take centre stage with both the FAI Cup final and the All-Ireland camogie final live.

One of the sporting highlights of the year, the All-Ireland hurling final, is on Sunday with Limerick taking on Waterford.

That game is preceded by the Joe McDonagh cup final between Kerry and Antrim. The programme begins at 12.30pm (RTÉ2 & RTÉ Player) with the Joe McDonagh cup final at 1.00pm and the main event throwing in at 3.30pm.

Irish Language commentary for the All-Ireland hurling final will be available on the RTÉ News channel.
