'Mayhem' in city centre as man led out of hotel in handcuffs

A man was arrested this morning after reports objects were being thrown out of a hotel window and staff were being abused.

Police confirmed they attended the scene at a hotel, on North John Street, at around 5am to reports of a man 'behaving erratically.'

A witnessed told the ECHO the incident was 'mayhem' as emergency services rushed to the scene and blocked roads, on Tuesday, September 14.

They said: "A man was taken away early this morning by several police officers.

"All roads in the surrounding area were blocked off with fire and police."

Officers arrested a 22-year-old man, from Northumberland, on suspicion of criminal damage, criminal damage to endanger life and causing a public nuisance, following the incident.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance to help police.

Two fire crews were called at 7.53am and on scene at 7.59am. They left the scene at 8.09am once the man had been detained by police.

A Merseyside police spokesperson told the ECHO: "We have arrested a man following an incident in Liverpool City Centre this morning.

"At around 5.15am we received a report that a male was behaving erratically at a hotel on North John Street.

"It was reported that the male was throwing objects out of the window and directing abusive language towards staff.

"Officers attended and a 22-year old man from Cramlington, Northumberland was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, criminal damage to endanger life and causing a public nuisance.

"He has been taken into custody and will be questioned by police. No injuries were reported."
