Mayfair restaurant Tokimeite launches £150 Wagyu Christmas sandwich

The battle for best Christmas sandwich is hotly contested every year.

But one Mayfair restaurant is hoping to blow all other competitors out of the water — with a festive treat costing £150. Tokimeite, a Japanese restaurant launched by Michelin-starred chef Yoshihiro Murata, has launched its wagyu katsu sando for the festive season.

As the name and price tag suggests, the sando — or Japanese sandwich — is filled with 120g of Japanese wagyu beef fillet, which is coated in breadcrumbs and fried. The meat is then sandwiched between two slices of freshly baked brioche bread, which is lathered in melted Saint-Nectaire cheese and a Japanese demi-glace sauce. The final touch is white truffle, which is shaved onto the sandwich in front of diners.

Murata launched Tokimeite — the Japanese word used to describe the feeling of butterflies in the stomach — in Mayfair in 2015. Main dishes on its a la carte menu start at £20.

The restaurant will only make four of the sandos every day. They are available until the end of December.
