Mayfair favourite Scott's opens private dining 'jewel box' following £6m conversion

A £6 million “jewel box” of a dining room with caviar, champagne and edible gold leaf on the menu and Renoir, Chagall and Pissarro on the walls opens today in Mayfair.

Restaurant Scott’s — a favourite of Michelle Obama, Victoria Beckham and Tom Hanks — has transformed a back-room office into an opulent private entertaining space. Behind the main dining room, it can hold a party of eight.

The cost of the conversion per place setting — including the art — is £750,000. The Platinum Arowana room, the world's most expensive restaurant interior, will have its own separate £200-a-head menu which must be ordered five days in advance.

It includes starters of Golden Pearls caviar with lobster soufflé and shaved black or white truffle, mains of Newlyn Bay turbot with hand-dived scallop and Oscietra caviar and roasted Black Angus chateaubriand.

Desserts include pink champagne and strawberry jelly with elderflower sorbet, while gold leaf salted caramel truffles are served with coffee.

The room has been designed to resemble a jewel box, with floors of illuminated green agate and glass panel walls. The artworks, chosen by Scott’s owner Richard Caring, include Renoir’s Nu Debout, Chagall’s La Danse and Pisarro’s Portrait du Peintre Ludovic Piette Avec Son Chapeau Rond.
