Mayfair export Sexy Fish tipped for new restaurant in Spinningfields

Sexy Fish, from the group behind The Ivy chain of restaurants, has been tipped to be opening an outpost in Spinningfields.

The new restaurant, whose Mayfair location is decorated with artwork by Damien Hirst, is set to replace the Armani store in No.1 The Avenue, Place North West has reported.

Armani is set to close its 15,000 sq ft Spinningfields Square store on August 15.

Sexy Fish’s London location opened in 2015, serving ‘Sexy fruit de mer’, sashimi and Japanese wagyu beef fetching £106 per serving.

Back then, then-Guardian food critic Marina O’Loughlin found the food ‘forgettable’ and the restaurant itself 'intimidating' - but it's become a celeb-magnet regardless, visited by the likes of Katy Perry, Noel Gallagher and Lindsay Lohan.

It's also the restaurant that Jess Glynne made accusations of ‘discrimination’ against after they turned her away from their London flagship for wearing a hoodie.

Its new home would be directly above Australasia, the subterranean sashimi and robata grill restaurant offering an experience strikingly similar to Sexy Fish, itself lined with expensive décor and artwork.

Sexy Fish is part of Caprice holdings, who also own The Ivy, which opened an enormous three-storey restaurant in Spinningfields back in 2019.

Sexy Fish are yet to confirm the new opening, but if it does follow its sister restaurant up north, it will become the latest addition to what has become a hub for all things high-end in Manchester.
