Maybe we shouldn’t be listening to Candace Cameron Bure’s “scary movie” takes

There are a lot of reasons for people to not enjoy scary movies. You may not be into a jump scare or gore isn’t your thing. It’s okay. Those are all legitimate reasons to not watch the genre. Candace Cameron Bure’s reasoning is less so.

On her Christianity podcast titled The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast, the former Full House star began talking about how she doesn’t like scary movies and specially said that she doesn’t even like people watching one in her home because it is “just a portal.” When she went on to explain it further, she said to her husband and son, “I’m in the film industry. I understand how it all works.”

If you think Bure’s explanation made more sense when she explained what she meant as a former “film industry” employee, think again. “I know that movie has a crew of 200 people, and they’re lighting it, and they’re adding the sound effects, and it’s makeup, and the camera, people, and actors; however, there’s still something that can be incredibly demonic while they’ve made it.”

That’s, what we call, filmmaking. But hey, maybe she heard the stories about Poltergeist and thought it was the case for every horror movie. To be fair to Candace Cameron Bure’s adult children, she said they make fun of her for how “spiritual” she gets about these things.”They laugh at me because ‘the portal,'” she said. “I’m like, you’re opening up a portal. Like if you’re watching this or playing this video game, or whatever, that’s a portal that could let stuff inside our home.”

Girl, I think it’s just a scary movie…

There are a lot of Christian focused ideas that I just really don’t understand. Growing up, I had a lot of people who wouldn’t let their kids read the same books I did or watch the same movies I did because they thought it was demonic. My very Catholic grandparents said “It’s fine” so I went with them over the “that’s demonic” crowd.

But thinking that a movie will open a portal into your home is a who different layer of absurdity. It’s just a horror movie! Even ones based on reality, I think they still are simply JUST HORROR MOVIES. I don’t think that by watching The Exorcist I’m allowing the devil in. I know because I thought that was the case as a child and my mom finally had to tell me it was fine.

Bure can think what she wants but to say that she doesn’t want her adult children watching horror movies in her home because they’ll open a portal is a who new level of “what now” that I really just can’t wrap my head around.
