'Maybe' - Warning from Nottingham Forest's play-off rivals ahead of final day showdown

Swansea City boss Steve Cooper believes there could yet be a few more “surprises” in the Championship, as his team aim to pounce on any final day slips by Nottingham Forest or Cardiff City.

The Reds and the Bluebirds are level on points, sitting fifth and sixth in the table, respectively.

Defeat for either in the last round of fixtures on Wednesday night could open the door for Cooper’s side to snatch a play-off spot at their expense.

The Swans are three points behind their rivals, in seventh. They need to beat Reading to stand any chance of gatecrashing the top six, and would require Forest to lose to Stoke City or Cardiff to fall to Hull City - as well as a swing in goal difference.

But Cooper is not ruling anything out.

“This is the Championship. It’s full of surprises,” he said.

“It’s been an interesting season for so many clubs in so many different ways.

“There’s one game to go and maybe there’s some ups and downs yet to come.”

Sabri Lamouchi’s men failed to get the point they needed to make sure of a play-off place on Sunday, as they were toppled 1-0 by Barnsley.

They will be eager to avoid any late drama at the City Ground, having conceded another injury-time goal at Oakwell.

And Cooper has outlined his plan to keep tabs on what is happening Trentside, as well as in Cardiff, to see where his team stand.

"We’ve got to win our game first of all. We won't take anything for granted," he said.

“Certainly not in the first half (watching other results) will we want any interference. If there’s anything we particularly need to know, then we will.

“I guess we’ll have a process in place for the second half if it’s needed.

"What I don’t want is anything interfering with our performance and us winning our game.

"Let’s not assume that we’re going to win. We’ve got to earn the right, play well, be confident and be clinical in both boxes.

“Unless we do that it doesn’t matter what happens elsewhere, so let’s take good care of our own business and we can’t influence what happens elsewhere anyway.

“But if there’s something that we need to know then I’m sure we’ll get that info."
