‘Maybe he’s into me’: San Francisco woman orders Taco Bell. Then her DoorDash driver ‘manipulates’ her into falling in love with him

A San Francisco woman thinks she is falling in love with her DoorDash driver, despite only seeing him twice. But is she sharing her experience or riffing off a viral joke?

In a video with more than 69,000 views, Lex Barn (@sf_lex) described her recent experience ordering on the app and how it led to a possible “meet cute,” although many commenters think she is just fantasizing.

In the video, she described her chance encounter with her DoorDash driver.

What happened with this DoorDash driver?

“It all started when I ordered Taco Bell on DoorDash,” she begins. “He started messaging me, being like, ‘Hey, your order is taking longer than normal.’ That’s the first time I’ve ever had a DoorDasher [tell] me. Then he got to my apartment and he brought it up to my unit. He didn’t leave it at the door downstairs. He came up to the fourth floor … and knocked on the door.”

After walking up four flights of stairs, the DoorDash driver left the order by her window and left. That simple act made Barn feel amazing, just because he cared a little bit more than others. Some DoorDash drivers do not take the time or initiative to hand-deliver food, despite it being an option on the app.

The next day, she ordered coffee on the app and got the same DoorDasher.

“He was almost like waiting there for me for the next time I would order,” she says. “I started to think maybe he’s into me and I’m kind of into him.”

A normal delivery or something more?

In a later update, Barn said she ordered from Blue Bottle, a coffee shop with multiple locations in San Francisco. He pulled up to her house with an extra maple blondie, which Barn did not order on DoorDash, leaving a note saying they had extra food at the establishment. The driver once again hand-delivered the order, walking up four flights of stairs to get to her apartment.

“He was trying to make it seem like Blue Bottle gave [the blondie] to me, but he obviously ordered [it],” she said in her update. The man asked about a cash tip, so she went back inside her apartment to get money to hand to him.

In her third update, she put in another DoorDash order, hoping the man would pick it up. He did, and she asked him out on a date to get drinks. In her update, Barn pans over to a man driving the vehicle where she is recording, who is supposedly the DoorDash driver she had been falling in love with over the course of a few days.

Viewers don’t think it was that romantic

Despite the story ending happily, many commenters pointed out that a regular DoorDash driver is supposed to deliver food to any location, even if it is up four flights of stairs. What Barn saw as romantic was seen as a normal way of getting good tips by other commenters and viewers.

A viewer added, “I used to do DoorDash … is bringing the food to you not common? Unless specifically instructed to leave it in the lobby, it should be brought to you.”

Other people thought that the DoorDash driver knocking was “a sign” that he was into Barn. One commenter wrote, “The knock is insane, he wants you bad.”

Others suggested that the video series might be satirical, making a lighthearted joke out of those who have had similar “meet cutes.”

Barn liked a comment that said, “The amount of people in the comments that don’t understand the joke is insane …”

This video also comes after the mega-viral series of a woman who reveals how she fell in love with her psychiatrist, so there’s a chance Barn was parodying that series.
