'Maybe he's being loyal' Former England man on Marcelo Bielsa's Bamford vs Nketiah dilemma

Eddie Nketiah has made a case that he can fire Leeds United "to the top", according to former England defender Chris Powell.

The Arsenal loanee came off the bench once again to rescue a point for the Whites against Preston in the Championship on Tuesday.

The striker's late effort secured a 1-1 draw following Patrick Bamford's struggles in front of goal once more, with the latter having now gone eight games without finding the back of the net.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the match, former Charlton player and manager Powell sought to hypothesize why Marcelo Bielsa continues to prefer Nketiah as a substitute than a regular in the starting line-up.

"Let me tell you, this young man is a finisher," the 50-year-old stated. "Once that ball's in the box, he's not the biggest player I've seen but he comes alive in the box.

"To out-jump those Preston defenders, to actually get a free header - it's not a powerful header, but well directed.

"Maybe Bielsa maybe is being loyal to Bamford. He paid a lot of money for him, he's scored some crucial goals for him.

"Nketiah's making a case to say I'm ready to shoot this team to the top. He will score goals. I've seen him with England in the Arsenal junior teams, he's a goalscorer.

"He will score goals for Leeds United. He's doing it off the bench in 20 minutes, whether he's more effective doing it that way than starting, Bielsa's obviously the man to answer that question."
