Maya Jama reportedly engaged after being pictured with a huge ring

By Ben Bloch

Maya Jama and her basketball star boyfriend, Ben Simmons, are engaged, reports say.

The 27-year-old TV presenter from Bristol was spotted wearing a huge diamond engagement ring when on a coffee date with the 25-year-old Philadelphia 76 ers' player yesterday.

Reports say that Ben popped the big question over the Christmas and New Year period, which they spent together at his £3.7million mansion in his hometown of Moorestown, New Jersey

An expert quoted in the MailOnline, which broke the news of Maya's engagement, valued the huge diamond engagement ring at upwards of £600,000, and another said it is worth in the region of £500,000.

Rumours started circulating a few weeks ago that Ben had popped the question after a picture of him was shared on social media by an American tattoo artist.

The caption on the picture appeared to let slip that the couple was engaged.

Philly Joe 215 Tattoo Studio, whose studio is on Bristol Road in Pennsylvania, in the US, wrote on Instagram: "Honoured and humbled to have gotten this opportunity to tattoo my boy @bensimmons and his his fiance and her friend from the UK LONDON AWESOME FOLKS GOOD TIME AND A GREAT DINNER THANKS TO YOUR CHIEF!"

Alexandra Michell, Gemologist Prestige Pawnbrokers of Channel 4’s Posh Pawn told the MailOnline: "This is a classic and elegant emerald cut diamond ring with trapezoid side stones on a white gold or platinum setting.

"The main diamond looks like it weighs approximately (a 10carats. It’s likely to be a very clean stone being an emerald cut (you can see straight through them), and looks to be very white. I would estimate this to retail for upwards of £600,000."

The couple were spotted wearing workout clothing with takeaway drinks in hand. Maya was wearing black leggings with a plain, dark-green hooded sweatshirt, while Ben was sporting blue tracksuit bottoms and a grey hooded sweatshirt, both with Nike logos.

Maya showed off her engagement ring to passing photographers as the pair strolled along the street in Moorestown, New Jersey.

The Sun reports that the pair have only told close family and friends of their engagement, and a source told the publication: "Ben adores Maya and has fallen head over heels for her.

"The Australian-raised star picked up the ring on Jewelers' Row in the diamond district of Philadelphia the day before he proposed.

"He chose the ring himself and felt he knew exactly what she would want. Maya said yes and they're both thrilled.'

"Ben was so excited," they added, "but they've decided to keep the news low-key and tell only those closest to them."

Maya is reportedly still in New Jersey with Ben, and hinted at plans to move to the US earlier this year, and fueled those rumours further when, in a video shared to her Instagram, she replied "Ummm maybe" to someone asking her if she was moving there.

They were first spotted together in June on a night out at the restaurant, Sexy Fish, in London, and went public at the Wimbledon tennis tournament when they kissed publicly.

Ben had previously been romantically linked to international star, Kendall Jenner, but the couple reportedly called it quits in May 2019.

Maya, meanwhile, dated rapper Stormzy for four years, and reportedly ended their relationship to focus on their careers.

Speaking to HOT 97 at the beginning of 2020, Stormzy denied he had been unfaithful to Maya, saying: "If there was a box of what a good woman is, she ticks every one, she's amazing. But I didn't cheat on her. I actually didn't cheat,' he told HOT 97 at the start of 2020.

"Don't get it twisted, I'm still definitely an a***hole. 100%, that's a fact. I'm an a***hole.

"But I thought now was a good time to say that I didn't cheat on my ex.'"

Maya recently received plaudits when presenting a new ITV talent show, Walk The Line, which aired every night for a week in December and saw fan-favourite Nadiah Adu-Gyamfi bag £500,000, winning the show.
