Maya Jama quotes classic Gavin & Stacey line as she throws herself off Newport Transporter Bridge

We all wondered why TV presenter Maya Jama was in Wales a few months back, and now we know.

She was putting herself through a series of white-knuckle challenges with Jason Fox, special forces hardman and star of SAS: Who Dares Wins, who has a new Channel 4 show, Foxy's Fearless 48 Hours.

In Maya's episode on Sunday, October 3, she's brought to Wales, the Gower and Newport primarily, and the end challenge of the show is to bungee off the Newport Transporter Bridge - which is around 163.9 ft down to the River Usk.

There's a lot of swearing and viewers will see Maya exclaim: "I need a pint....of wine," which is a classic line from Nessa (Ruth Jones) in Gavin & Stacey series one (episode five for those who are interested).

But before that ultimate challenge Maya is put through her paces, driving through a forest (she doesn't have a driver's licence), abseiling off the Welsh coast and Fox scares the living daylights out of her by driving down a steep decline towards the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea. Fair play, the Celebrity Juice panellist and Soccer Aid pundit isn't given an easy time.

And it's raining almost the whole time they filmed here.

"Right now I'd rather do so many things that are horrible than do that," she says at the start of the show, as Fox reveals the ultimate plan for Maya.

But the pair bond during the show with the 27-year-old DJ cooking a comforting meal for the pair to help them feel relaxed and Maya opens up about her past and what she'll draw on emotionally to help her through the tasks.

She explains: "My dad was in and out of jail from three, and I didn't think it was a problem. It was all I knew, that was normal. Then got to 16 and met a boy, was going to move to London and then he was killed in the summer before I moved to London. And it was my first love. And it changes you, you're like a little girl and then that changes, this is adult stuff."

Jason remarks that nothing she's going to go through in the show will be as bad as those experiences and Maya certainly draws on some strength to get through the cold, wet and breathtaking challenges she's set in Wales.

You can see the full story of Maya and Jason's adventure by tuning into Foxy's Fearless 48 Hours with Maya Jama, on Sunday, October 3 at 10pm on Channel 4.
