Maya Jama fans have same response as she replaces Laura Whitmore on Love Island

Fans have branded Maya Jama the new ‘Queen of TV’ as she was announced as the next host of Love Island.

The 28-year-old will take over presenting duties on the ITV2 dating show from January when the winter series starts filming in South Africa.

It comes after Laura Whitmore confirmed she was stepping down from the role to pursue other projects.

Confirming the news on her Instagram page in a joint post with the official Love Island account, Maya uploaded a video of herself scrolling through her phone which panned out to reveal a suitcase.

The Love Island theme tune could also be heard playing in the background as she flashed a beaming smile at the camera.

Underneath Maya commented: “SO BLOODY EXCITED. GET ME ON THAT ISLAND.”

Her celebrity pals, including former host Laura Whitmore, flocked to congratulate her on the new presenting gig.

“Yes girl!! So delighted for you! You’re gonna be fab,” the 37-year-old wrote.

Radio 1 DJ Melvin Odoom wrote: “Congratulations miss could only have been you this is great news!”

Ex-Love Island stars Tasha Ghouri, Gabby Allen and Demi Jones also showed their support, along with TOWIE star Bobby Norris.

Fans say Maya - seen presenting this year's BRITs- is the new 'Queen of TV' (ITV)

Prior to Love Island, Maya – who is a TV, radio presenter and DJ – has hosted MTV show True Love or Lies.

She also took over from Stacey Dooley to present BBC Three’s Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make Up Star.

And in 2017 at the age of just 23 she was the youngest person to ever co-host the MOBO Awards with Marvin Humes, which she hosted again in 2020. She also co-hosted the BRITs this year.

Although she is best known for her career on-screen, she has had a lucrative modelling career, working with brands including Kurt Geiger, Gap and Adidas.

Aside from her work, she is known for having a four-year relationship with British rapper Stormzy.

She was recently engaged to Australian basketball star Ben Simmons, but the pair split in September, blaming conflicting work schedules.
