Veteran Glenn Maxwell has knocked back a lucrative offer from Sydney Thunder to re-sign with the Melbourne Stars in a huge boost for the BBL's perennial underachievers.
Maxwell has formally recommitted to the Stars for another two seasons, along with young gun Campbell Kellaway.
It comes ahead of the BBL's contracting embargo and player movement window period.
Clubs have until the close of business on Tuesday to fill up to 10 spots on their list for the 2026-27 season.
From Wednesday, clubs will trade players and draft picks with other teams and won't be able to re-sign current members of their list.
The Stars are the only BBL franchise yet to win a title in the competition's 15-year history.
After starting the latest tournament 4-0, the Stars won just two of their final seven matches to be eliminated in the first round of finals by the Hobart Hurricanes.
"It has been an incredible journey with the Stars," Maxwell told SEN on Tuesday.
"When you have a year where we felt like we were probably right in the mix for winning the trophy this year and fall short and end in pretty brutal circumstances, it can knock you around a bit .
"But I won't be going anywhere.
"It's going to take a lot to get someone out of their home.
"You only have to look at the Perth Scorchers, it's virtually impossible to get those guys out of their home state."
At the Thunder, captain David Warner has already re-signed for next season following a hugely successful tournament on a personal level.
The former Australia star will play again in 2026-27 as a 40-year-old after blazing 433 runs at an average of 86.60 in the recently completed tournament.
