Luke from the Maximum Football team has shared an update on what the crew’s been working on since the game launched on PlayStation 5 a month ago. The first post-launch dev blog highlights a few key improvements in the works.
The biggest change so far is to CPU playcalling. The old system was a bit too rigid and predictable, so the team built a smarter one. Now, the CPU evaluates plays using different metrics, adjusts based on the game situation and makes more realistic decisions throughout the game.
Player movement is also getting some attention with new animations added for speeding up and changing direction. The goal is to make everything look and feel more natural, especially when transitioning from a standstill. It’s most noticeable on plays like screens, where receivers now flow more smoothly after the catch instead of pausing awkwardly.
Blocking has been another focus in the update with offensive linemen being more aware of the pocket and the quarterback’s position, helping them form a stronger wall and avoid chasing defenders unnecessarily.
Franchise mode is still on the way, but the team gave a small preview. Each team will have a full coaching staff, including a head coach, offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator, each with their own strengths. There’ll also be support roles like scouts, marketers and accountants. Plus, players from Dynasty mode can be brought into Franchise as incoming draft classes. More details on Franchise and future updates are coming as the release gets closer.
