Maxim Dadashev's trainer pleads with boxer to stop during fatal defeat in heartbreaking footage

Maxim Dadashev's trainer Buddy McGirt pleaded with the Russian to stop during his fatal defeat to Subriel Matias.

Dadashev has passed away at the age of 28 due to the injuries he sustained against Matias in Maryland last week.

The Russian suffered "severe brain damage" and underwent emergency surgery but his condition deteriorated and his passing was confirmed on Tuesday.

Trainer Buddy McGirt was forced to halt the 140-pound world title eliminator bout with Puerto Rican Matias after the 11th round last week as his fighter suffered brutal blows.

And heartbreaking footage of the discussions between the fighter and trainer has now emerged.

The clip shows a weary Dadashev making his way to the corner when McGirt tells him: "I am going to stop the fight.

"Max, I am going to stop it. You are getting hit too much."

Dadashev, who is visibly groggy, insists his trainer should not throw in the towel but he is insistent.

McGirt adds: "Please Max, please let me do this. Please, please, you are getting hit too much.

"If I don't, they are going to do it. You understand? The referee will do it."

The ringside doctors are eventually forced to intervene with the fight called off.

Dadashev collapsed in front of fans as he made his way out of the the arena at the MGM National Harbor after suffering a subdural haematoma, a bleed on the vein beneath the skull.

His condition is said to have deteriorated rapidly after arriving in hospital.

Dadashev has one son Daniel with his wife Elizabeth, with the family living in Oxnard, California.

The 28-year-old had won all 13 of his previous fights before the brutal defeat to Matias in the States.

He was also a silver and bronze medallist in the Russian championships before turning professional.
