Max Taylor returns to Manchester United training after cancer treatment

Manchester United have confirmed Under 23s defender Max Taylor has returned to training after successfully responding to cancer treatment.

Taylor, who signed his first professional contract at the club last year, was back with his teammates for the first time this week having successfully completed chemotherapy for cancer.

“I feel immensely proud and happy to be back on the training pitch with my team-mates and friends,” Taylor told ManUtd.com. “Without the invaluable support of my family, team-mates and, of course, the nurses and doctors, my return to training at this stage would not have been possible.

“I want to thank all of the club’s medical and sports-science staff that I have worked with throughout my rehabilitation. The next step is to continue working hard in the gym, and out on the grass, to hopefully make my return on the pitch.”

The 19-year-old will continue to be involved with training intermittently as he steps up his return to the full-time programme.

The teenager first released a statement about his illness back in February when he thanked medical staff and the club for their support as he underwent treatment.

"I would like to thank everyone at the club that has helped me since day one," Taylor told manutd.com.

“The nurses at the Christie and HCA healthcare, plus Melissa from MacMillan Cancer Support, have all provided me with wonderful care."

Taylor set up a fundraising page to raise money for three different cancer charities after his diagnosis and has raised over £10,000.
