Max Stryjek signs for National League Eastleigh after leaving Sunderland

Max Stryjek has joined National League side Eastleigh after the expiry of his Sunderland contract.

The Polish goalkeeper came through the academy ranks at Sunderland but was released this summer having failed to make a first team appearance.

He has signed a deal with Eastleigh where he spent the first half of last season on loan. He made 15 appearances there, only losing twice and keeping five clean sheets. He saved a penalty on his debut to quickly endear himself to supporters.

Many had expected the 22-year-old to sign a new deal with the Black Cats and become second choice to Jon McLaughlin this season. However, he chose to move on, eager to play first team football in the new season.

Stryjek said of his move: “I’m really happy to join Eastleigh and I’m really excited to start a new adventure. I’m looking forward to the new season as it will be a new challenge and hopefully we will get promoted, that should be how it goes.”

Spitfires boss Ben Strevens added: “I’m delighted to bring Max back to the club on a permanent basis. I had two keepers in my mind who I wanted to sign, and Max was one of them.

"He’s a brilliant keeper as he showed here on loan in the early part of last season with a number of really good performances. Now this is a chance for him to get his head down and concentrate on his football.”
