Max Stryjek fumes at Rangers snowballs as Livingston teammate admits 'I had to hold him back'

Jack Fitzwater reckons mad Max Stryjek lost his cool as he was bombarded with snowballs from the Rangers support.

But he has warned Livingston will have to find a way to keep ice in their veins if they are to survive their December schedule.

Davie Martindale ’s side suffered their first defeat in seven games as Gers handed new boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst a maiden Premiership win.

They now face a hectic run of eight games before the winter break, starting with Wednesday’s trip north to Pittodrie.

Fitzwater admits his team need to find a better way to keep their composure after seeing Stryjek lose the rag with the travelling support.

The defender said: “I had to hold him back, he was complaining to the ref.

“Max is a madman but we are going to need the whole squad focussed for Wednesday because we have so many tough games now.

“It’s a real tough period now and we are going to need everyone on it to pick up points.

“Max made a few good saves. That’s what he is there for and what he is paid for but in the first half he didn’t have much to do other than pick the ball out the net.

“We’d been good as a team going into this, we’d been five unbeaten and defensively solid.

“The saves Max has to make keep us in games at times.”

The second half was held up by eight minutes as referee David Munro ordered the snowballs to be cleared from Stryjek’s box.

The incident enraged Livi boss Davie Martindale, who marched onto the park to confront the officials but Fitzwater could see the funny side.

He said: “We came out for the second half and thought it would just be a bit of stick from the Rangers fans.

“But because of the size of the snowballs we were complaining to the referee, pointing out that if the ball took a deflection that’s going to change the course of the ball.

“So we had to get it cleared in the end.

“To be fair their fans have packed the stadium and it was a good atmosphere and that’s what you want.

“I didn’t see the manager on the pitch because I was too busy helping to clear snowballs and having a bit of a laugh.

“He definitely wasn’t happy and probably isn’t happy now after that result, but we will pick the bones out of it tomorrow and go again on Wednesday.”
