Hayao Miyazaki's Oscar-winning The Boy and the Heron is now available for streaming in the United States. The film has found a streaming home on Max, which has secured the streaming rights under an extension of its exclusive deal to feature films from Studio Ghibli, the renowned animation studio co-founded by Miyazaki, Isao Takahata, and Toshio Suzuki.

GKIDS, the distributor for Studio Ghibli in North America, has signed a multi-year extension with Max to keep the studio's library on the Warner Bros. Discovery platform. This move aims to cater to subscribers seeking unique and captivating stories, with Elizabeth Bannan Atcheson, vp content acquisitions for Warner Bros. Discovery, expressing delight in continuing to offer the award-winning and critically acclaimed films from Studio Ghibli, including the latest addition, The Boy and the Heron.

The Studio Ghibli library has been a part of Max's content catalog since the platform's launch in 2020. The initial agreement with GKIDS marked a significant milestone as it was the first time the studio's complete collection of movies was licensed to a U.S. streaming service.

An official release date for The Boy and the Heron on Max will be announced in the near future. The film, which is the second Studio Ghibli production to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, following Spirited Away in 2002, is set to captivate audiences with its enchanting storytelling and breathtaking animation.
