Max Scherzer took the mound with a black eye and broken nose and MLB fans loved it

Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer broke his nose after taking a ball to the face while trying to lay down a bunt during batting practice on Tuesday.

On Wednesday he was back out on the mound and he brought a black eye with him as he started against Bryce Harper and the Philadelphia Phillies.

Scherzer is one of the most competitive players in all of baseball, so it wasn’t much of a surprise to see him playing just a day after suffering the painful injury.

Update: Scherzer had a monster game, striking out 10 batters, including three batters in the seventh inning:

Fans watching the game on TV were fired up over the black eye, which gave Scherzer an even more intimidating look:
