Max Power on the takeover talk and how Sunderland players have treated the news

Sunderland's impending takeover is the talk of Wearside - but Max Power insists the players will not allow 'outside noise' to distract them from their promotion campaign.

Black Cats owner Stewart Donald is currently in talks with businessmen John Phelan, Glenn Fuhrman, and Robert Platek of MSD Partners, with the trio looking to take a controlling stake in the club.

The prospective investors were at the Stadium of Light on Saturday to see Sunderland notch their third league win in a row as they beat AFC Wimbledon.

And while midfielder Power says the players have avoided getting wrapped up in the takeover talk, he says the guests from the US cannot fail to have been impressed by the performance, result, and atmosphere, they experienced at the weekend.

"It wasn't really something we were aware of," said Power of the investors' presence at the game.

"As players, our full focus was on the game - I'll leave that sort of stuff [off-field matters] to other people! - we just wanted to get three points.

"It's important to try and block out as much outside noise as possible and focus on the task in hand.

"There was no mention of it before the game amongst the players, we just cracked on with the match.

"But I am sure they will have been impressed and it was nice that they came and witnessed a win, the fans were in great voice, and it was a good day.

"Maybe that will have given them a nudge in wanting to do something, I don't know!"

The investors are currently combing the books as part of the due diligence process, and when that is complete they will have to be approved by the EFL under its Owners' and Directors' Test before the takeover can be finalised.
