Max Kruse claims he turned down Liverpool move before signing for Fenerbahce

Max Kruse has claimed that he turned down advances from Champions League winners Liverpool before signing for Turkish giants Fenerbahce , who finished sixth in the Super Lig last season.

The 31-year-old was available on a free transfer this summer after he left Werder Bremen at the end of his contract.

Kruse spent three impressive seasons with the German club scoring 35 goals in 94 appearances, adopting the centre-forward role for Bremen.

The Germany international had scored double figures in terms of goals in six of the last eight seasons in the Bundesliga prior to signing for Fenerbahce on the 1st July.

His move to Turkey came after receiving calls from numerous clubs and Kruse claims the Reds were one of them.

In an interview with BeIN Sports Turkey , the striker said: "During the transfer period, I've received lots of offers and one of them was Liverpool,"

"But I decided to join Fenerbahce because I believe I will be very happy there.

"I spoke with a lot of players during that period and I am happy about my decision."

With 465 appearances to his name, Kruse is a very experienced player and played in a similar role to the one Roberto Firmino plays in the current Liverpool team.

Kruse could've been a useful outlet if Jurgen Klopp wanted to rotate the squad, giving rest to his devastating front three.

The Reds, however, have been relatively quiet this summer, with the Liverpool boss happy with his current set of players that became European champions last season.

The return of long-term absentee Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and the up and coming talent of 18-year-old striker Rhian Brewster are likely to add to Liverpool's depth this upcoming campaign.

Liverpool finish off their tour of America next week, facing Napoli on Sunday and Lyon on Wednesday.

Upon returning to England, they face Man City at Wembley for the Community Shield and will face Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup five days after the opening game of the season against newly promoted Norwich.
