Max Holloway sends message to Conor McGregor from ambulance after brutal fight

Max Holloway had barely drawn breath after his thrilling win over Yair Rodriguez when he took the opportunity to troll Conor McGregor.

The former UFC featherweight champion was on his way to hospital following his brutal five-round decision victory in Las Vegas.

But he wasted no time in tweeting McGregor with whom he shared the octagon in 2013.

Referring to McGregor's bizarre claim earlier this. year that he was undefeated because only knockouts count, Holloway posted simply: "Undefeated".

The Hawaiian has also not been stopped by strikes in his mixed martial arts career, losing by submission to Dustin Poirier in 2012 before suffering points defeats to Denis Bermudez, McGregor, Poirier and twice to Alexander Volkanovski.

Holloway stoked the flames of his rivalry with McGregor in the build-up to his win over Rodriguez.

Both fighters claim to be the best boxer in the UFC and appear on course for a rematch at lightweight.

Indeed, McGregor responded to Holloways' win by posting a video of himself marching back and forward in front of his television as if stalking his rival.

Holloway will likely face Volkanovski for a third time before entertaining a second meeting with McGregor who is currently recovering from a broken leg.

"I don’t know what’s next for Max, but it does make sense to see him and Volkanovski again," UFC president Dana White said. "Conor’s not even... Conor’s still hurt; to even talk about Conor is silly."

McGregor had earlier hit out at Holloway's claim to be the best boxer in the promotion when he said: “Best boxer my a** crack.

"The guys been smacked the most smacks in UFC history! Most shots absorbed is not best boxer guys I’m sorry, and I love the kid."

Holloway and Rodriguez combined to land 389 significant strikes last night as the winner became the first fighter in UFC history to land 3,000 total strikes in his career.

"All the love to Yair,” Holloway said after the fight. “This guy’s a beast. I feel great. His boxing’s pretty good. He was moving like a boxer but then he was throwing elbows.

"Fair game to him; this guy’s a freaking beast, that’s why I wanted to fight him."

Yair added: "I came really prepared for this fight. Max is an amazing fighter. He was better than me tonight."
