Max Duggan vs. Caleb Williams: Who deserves the Heisman Trophy?

There have been many great players in 2022. Two have moved ahead of the rest in the battle for the Heisman Trophy, USC’s Caleb Williams and TCU’s Max Duggan.

Each had a chance to lock up the prestigious award in conference championship games but both the Trojans and Horned Frogs lost.

Williams was injured and hobbled in the loss to Utah.

Duggan put forth an incredible effort against Kansas State, almost singlehandedly willing the Horned Frogs to victory.

So how does this Heisman battle stack up?

Duggan: 3,321 passing yards, 30 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions. He also rushed for 394 yards and 5 TDs (remember in college football, sacks count against quarterback rushing yards for some reason).

Williams: 4,075 passing yards, 37 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions. He had 372 rushing yards and 10 TDs on the ground.

USC finished 11-2 while TCU is 12-1.

Big things were expected from Williams after he transferred to USC from Oklahoma. The same could not be said of Duggan and the Horned Frogs.

It will have no impact on the Heisman voting, which is based on the 2022 season but they faced each other last year.

Williams and Oklahoma downed Duggan and TCU, 52-31.

Each threw 4 TD passes in that Big 12 contest.

The award will be announced on December 10.

Both are finalists for the Davey O’Brien Award, given to the nation’s top QB.
