Max Currie set for Airdrie transfer as goalkeeper leaves Stranraer

Airdrieonians have agreed a deal to sign Stranraer goalkeeper Max Currie.

The 23-year-old, who came through the ranks at Rangers and Motherwell, has agreed a one-year part-time deal with the Diamonds and will complete the switch when his Stair Park deal expires next week.

Currie was regarded as one of the top goalkeeping prospects in the lower leagues last season and had attracted interest from Kilmarnock and Dunfermline.

He shone in the Blues' 2-0 Scottish Cup defeat to Rangers at Ibrox in January.

Now he is preparing for a new start with Ian Murray’s side where he will vie with David Hutton for the number one spot whenever the new campaign finally gets up and running.

Currie made 92 appearances for Stranraer after being flung in for his debut against Stenhousemuir as an 18-year-old.

His second start came against Celtic as he stole the show in front of the live TV cameras at Stair Park in a 3-0 Scottish Cup defeat in January 2016.

Currie’s big brother Blair is also a goalkeeper at Stirling Albion.
