Max Clifford dead: Disgraced former celebrity publicist dies after collapsing in prison

Disgraced former celebrity publicist Max Clifford, 74, has died in hospital after collapsing at Littlehey Prison in Cambridgeshire, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Justice has said.

The 74-year-old collapsed twice in two days after cleaning his cell this week, it had been reported.

He was serving an eight-year jail sentence for historic sex offences.

He was jailed in 2014, having been convicted on eight counts of indecent assault against four girls then aged between 14 and 19.

A Ministry of Justice spokeswoman confirmed Clifford died in hospital on 10 December.

“As with all deaths in custody, there will be an investigation by the independent Prisons and Probation Ombudsman,” she said.

“Our condolences are with Mr Clifford’s family at this difficult time.”

During his decades in PR Clifford represented big names including The Beatles, Muhammad Ali, Frank Sinatra and Chelsea Football Club.
