Max Allegri is reportedly ready to take on the Tottenham job as fears grow that Mauricio Pochettino could quit.
Pochettino spoke of "different agendas" in the Tottenham dressing room after his side's humiliating Carabao Cup exit to Colchester United on Tuesday.
His post-match comments revived fears among Spurs fans that he could walk way.
He had also criticised his players after they blew a two-goal lead against Olympiakos in the Champions League last week.
Pochettino said before Tottenham's Champions League final against Liverpool back in June that he could quit the club if they lifted the European Cup, as it would have been the culmination of his work since taking charge five years ago.
The Argentine has long been linked with Real Madrid, and with Zinedine Zidane boss already having felt the pressure of being in the Bernabeu hotseat, speculation of a move for Pochettino has refused to go away .
Tottenham ace Christian Eriksen is also after a summer of speculation about the Denmark international.
Allegri is weighing up his options after leaving Juventus last summer following the club's eighth successive Serie A title.
And the Italian manager is considering the challenge of helping Tottenham making the step up to Europe's elite, according to The Sun .
Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers could also be in the frame should Pochettino decide to quit.
After Tuesday's penalty shootout Carabao Cup exit to Colchester, Pochettino said: "When you have an unsettled squad always need time and then you need time to recover the time you lose. That’s where we are.
“Maybe performances are good but we need this mental connection, this energy to be all together, not to have different agendas in the squad. We need time again to build that togetherness."
He also hinted at changes in the new year , saying: "January is going to be a good opportunity too to fix this situation and the next one."
