Max Allegri issues Cristiano Ronaldo injury update ahead of Juventus vs Ajax

Cristiano Ronaldo is a heavy doubt for Juventus' Champions League clash with Ajax, according to Max Allegri.

Superstar Ronaldo damaged his thigh during the international break as he was forced off during Portugal's 1-1 draw with Serbia.

The former Real Madrid ace missed Juve's victory over Empoli on Saturday - with Moise Kean netting the only goal - and is set to miss Tuesday's Serie A fixture with Cagliari and the weekend's game with AC Milan.

The Turin giants face Ajax in the Champions League quarter-final next Wednesday, with the first leg taking place in Amsterdam.

And Ronaldo has been set the target of the tie as a return date, but boss Allegri isn't 100 per cent confident.

"Cristiano is working to get back, we hope to have him ready for Ajax, but it will be difficult," Allegri said.

"Today's exam is much better, the leg is much better, then there is a clinical examination and the player's symptoms.

"There are still nine days to go, so we still have time to evaluate things together. He is doing things he can do right now, it is normal that you have to be careful in everything and evaluate pros and cons.

"Douglas Costa is in good condition and should be available for that game," he added. "Sami Khedira trained yesterday and could be back for AC Milan [on April 6].

"[Juan] Cuadrado is working well and it's only a matter of time until he's back with the group. I'll see how Paulo Dybala is today, whilst Mario Mandzukic had a bit of a fever so will need to be evaluated."

Ronaldo joined Juve from Real in a £105million move last summer.

Since arriving at the Allianz Stadium, Ronaldo has netted 19 times in 26 Serie A appearances - with another four strikes coming in the Champions League.
