Mavs vs. Lakers recap: Montrezl Harrell dominates to help Lakers to first win

After an opening night stumble against the Los Angeles Clippers, the Los Angeles Lakers recovered very well in their Christmas Day matchup against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks, in large part thanks to one of their major offseason acquisitions, which they stole away from the Clippers. Montrezl Harrell was fantastic off the Lakers bench, scoring 22 points and grabbing seven rebounds while going a very efficient nine of 11 from the field in a 138-115 Lakers win.

Harrell’s contributions helped the Lakers, as well as their two stars Anthony Davis (28 points) and LeBron James (22 points and 10 assists), in getting their first victory of the young season. Harrell was also a team-high +17. In addition to Harrell, fellow new addition Dennis Schröder had a solid game with 18 points and six assists.

The Lakers were dominant as a group for most of the game and extended that lead even more in the fourth quarter, pushing the Mavericks to an 0-2 start. LeBron James also didn’t show any lingering effects from turning his ankle in Wednesday’s opener.

With his 22 points, James also passed Oscar Robertson for No. 2 on the NBA’s all-time scoring list on Christmas Day.
