Dirk Nowitzki and Deron Williams will miss both ends of the back-to-back that starts Friday night against Memphis, coach Rick Carlisle said after the team's Friday morning workout.
Nowitzki is making progress from a sore right Achilles and Carlisle said that, at this point, there are no plans to shut down Nowitzki long term.
"They'll be out at least two games and then we'll see where they are," Carlisle said. "He (Nowitzki) is making progress, but we're going to be cautious and smart about it. He's played hurt a lot in his career. This situation is different, though. We're early in the year and there's something that has hung around that needs to be addressed and expunged. And so, we're working on it."
Nowitzki will miss his sixth and seventh consecutive games with the injury. The earliest he could return would be Monday at San Antonio.
Williams aggravated his left-calf strain in the first half of the Boston game on Wednesday. He had missed four games before trying to return against the Celtics.
Devin Harris (right big toe) and J.J. Barea (left calf) also are out. The only healthy point guards for tonight's game against Memphis and Saturday's at Orlando are Seth Curry and newly signed Jonathan Gibson.
