Mavs hiring two-time WNBA champion Kristi Toliver as assistant coach, sources say

DALLAS — New Mavericks coach Jason Kidd augmented his coaching staff on Thursday when, according to sources, the franchise reached a contract agreement with Kristi Toliver.

Toliver, 34, is a three-time WNBA All-Star and two-time champion. Though she currently plays guard for the Los Angeles Sparks, she also brings coaching experience to her new Mavericks role, having spent the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons as a Washington Wizards assistant.

Her father, George Toliver, is a longtime NBA referee. Kristi Toliver starred at Maryland, where as a freshman she sent the 2006 NCAA championship game against Duke into overtime with a 3-pointer and the Terps went on to win the title.

She won the 2016 WNBA title as a member of the Sparks, and the 2019 title while playing for the Washington Mystics.
