Mavs guard Tyrell Terry speaks about his extended absence during rookie season

PLANO, Texas -- Tyrell Terry’s rookie season wasn’t anything like he or anyone else hoped when the Mavericks made him the No. 31 overall pick of last November’s NBA draft.

He played in only 11 games as a Maverick, totaling 11 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists while going 0-for-7 in 3-point shooting in just 56 minutes of court time.

He spent the bulk of his time playing for the Memphis Hustle in the G-League’s abbreviated season in the Disney World bubble.

For Mavericks fans, though, the biggest story of Terry’s rookie season was the mysterious eight-week personal leave of absence from March 17 to May 12.

On Thursday, while making an appearance at the Mavs Hoop Camp in the Plano Sports Authority, Terry for the first time spoke publicly about his absence, but did not specify the reasons behind it.

Terry said he is appreciative of the support he received from the Mavericks organization and fans.
