Mavericks will hold out Luka Doncic Sunday vs. the Thunder with injury

Dallas Mavericks forward Luka Doncic will not play Sunday afternoon on the road against the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to Dwain Price of Mavs.com.

Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle said Doncic was limited in practice on Saturday due to a right thigh contusion suffered Thursday night against the Miami Heat.

The rookie has become the leading scorer this season for the Mavericks with 21.1 points in 70 games played this season. With the Mavs out of the playoff picture, the team is likely being cautious with Doncic on Sunday.

Dallas had a strong first half of the season after posting a 20-22 record but the club has gone just 9-24 since that point of the season. With Doncic, the team has shown some potential for the future.

Of course, the Mavericks acquired Kristaps Porzingis, Trey Burke, Courtney Lee and Tim Hardaway Jr. from the New York Knicks on Feb. 1 in exchange for Dennis Smith Jr., Wesley Matthews and DeAndre Jordan.

Doncic averaged 21.3 points, six assists and five rebounds in three games against the Thunder this season.
