Donnie Nelson, the Mavericks' president of basketball operations who is a native of Iowa, was headed there on Wednesday to close the deal with free-agent acquisition Harrison Barnes.
Nelson will be in Barnes' hometown of Ames, Iowa. Barnes has agreed to a four-year, $94 million contract. The earliest it could be signed is 12:01 a.m. EDT on Thursday when the moratorium on transactions is lifted.
Most of the Mavericks' moves are expected to be made official on Thursday.
They first will complete a trade with Indiana to send Jeremy Evans to the Pacers, a source said. The move of the seldom-used Evans is necessary to clear cap space before the trade for Golden State's Andrew Bogut can go through.
The Mavericks may also move some other salary, perhaps JaVale McGee.
Other deals expected to be made official include the re-signing Deron Williams (one year, $10 million) and Dwight Powell (four years, $37 million).
And, of course, Dirk Nowitzki's two-year, $40 million deal will be finalized as soon as possible.
A source said it doesn't appear that there will be any snags in making the deals official.
