While all signs are pointing to Kevin Durant choosing somewhere other than the Lakers, the meeting of the minds at last night’s Clippers-Warriors game might get some people talking.
While Kevin Durant was reminding everyone else who he is with a 43 point performance to put the Warriors up 2-1 in their best-of-seven series against the Clippers, his agent and business partner Rich Kleiman was sitting next to LeBron James’ business partner and friend Maverick Carter. ESPN’s Rachel Nichols snapped a photo of the two power players at the game.
Obviously, the implications are there if you’re looking for them. Although everyone expects Durant to head East if he does leave the champs, the Lakers do have the ability to offer Durant the max contract he would want while also having another star in LeBron and a young, but unproven supporting cast.
However, it could just be a business meeting. Durant and LeBron have a strong relationship that goes outside of the basketball court, so it could just be another meeting to hatch yet another successful off-court business plan. But it does seem pretty clear that plan won’t involve Space Jam 2.
