Mauro Icardi to Chelsea: Antonio Cassano has a warning for Blues if transfer ban is lifted

Former Inter Milan striker Antonio Cassano has issued a warning to Chelsea over their pursuit of Mauro Icardi.

Icardi returned to the Inter side last week, following a two-month hiatus, scoring in the win over Genoa before a goalless draw with Atalanta.

The 26-year-old had been in exile at the San Siro after a series of fallings out - failing to agree a new contract with the club and being stripped of the captain's armband.

There was a lot of talk about his future, with a number of clubs, including Chelsea, showing an interest, while his wife and agent Wanda Nara admitted that a host of Europe's top clubs were keen on signing him.

But Cassano has delivered a warning to any potential suitors, saying the Argentinian "offers nothing".

Speaking to Tiki Taka, the former Italy man said: "Inter play with a 4-2-3-1, which means having only one striker.

"If it was up to [Luciano] Spalletti [the manager], he would play [Lautaro] Martinez because he prefers strikers who play for the team.

"Lautaro’s done very well, he’s 20 and he has to play because he’s better than Mauro. Icardi just scores and that’s it. If he doesn’t score, he offers nothing else.

"Spalletti prefers strikers like [Edin] Dzeko, [Karim] Benzema and [Robert] Lewandowski. Icardi is like [Filippo] Inzaghi in that if he doesn't score, he does nothing else.

"There are players who score goals and others who score goals and also play for the team."
