Mauro Icardi completes loan transfer from Inter Milan to PSG

Mauro Icardi has completed a sensational deadline day move to Paris Saint-Germain from Inter Milan.

Striker Icardi will initially join PSG on a season loan but the Ligue 1 champions will have the option to make the deal permanent for £63.22million next summer.

Argentina international Icardi fell out with Inter Milan after being stripped of the captaincy in February but had to agree a contract extension until 2022 with the Italian club before the deal was completed.

"I’d like to thank Paris Saint-Germain for the confidence they have shown in me," said Icardi, who will wear the No.18 shirt at the Parc des Princes.

"I will give everything to help my new team go as far as possible in all competitions. Paris Saint-Germain has become an international football powerhouse, attracting some of the greatest players in recent years.

"The momentum is strong in Paris, ambitions are high and I am sure that we have everything here to go even further.

"And I’m really looking forward to playing at the Parc des Princes, a stadium famous for its beauty and passion!”

PSG wanted more cover up front with Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani injured, with Icardi set to partner fellow South American Neymar.

Icardi was given a squad number by Inter this season but hasn't appeared this season - with former Manchester United front man Romelu Lukaku leading the line at the San Siro.

He was told earlier this summer by Antonio Conte he was surplus to requirements at the San Siro after the Nerazzurri splashed £74million on Lukaku.

Neymar will remain at PSG despite seeking to move back to Barcelona . Arsene Wenger said: "I think that he is one of the best players in the world and I am happy that he is staying at PSG."

Goalkeeper Keylor Navas has signed a four-year contract with PSG with Alphonse Areola going the other way to Real Madrid on a season-long loan.

Navas said: "I'm really excited to sign for Paris Saint-Germain.

"I'm coming to France with high hopes - it is a very prestigious club and I am keen to be part of the adventure.

"I will do everything I can to help PSG win new titles, bringing all my experience and professionalism, and will also try to win the hearts of the Parisian fans, famous throughout Europe for their passion."
