Maurizio Sarri to Tottenham and the truth about ex-Chelsea boss tipped to replace Jose Mourinho

With the European Super League debacle now over, attention will swiftly turn back to who replaces Jose Mourinho as the Tottenham manager.

Ryan Mason was named interim head coach on Tuesday, handed the reins until the end of the season, making him, at 29, the youngest manager the Premier League has had.

He of course has an affinity with Tottenham having spent much of his career on the books of the north London club, given his debut by Mauricio Pochettino and learning his coaching trade at the club in the youth setup.

He would not have been expected to be given the top job so early, but Mourinho's sacking on Monday left him steering the ship until the end of the current campaign, with a Carabao Cup final against Manchester City to negotiate on Sunday.

No one is expecting the rookie boss to be handed the reins full-time after this season's end, with plenty of other higher-profile names in the frame to be Mourinho's permanent successor.

One name that was perhaps something of a surprise in the last couple of days has been former Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri, who has spent the last two seasons with Juventus.

Sarri only spent one year at Stamford Bridge, before being dispensed with by Roman Abramovich, but he has been tipped to return to the Premier League.

Reports have suggested that Daniel Levy and Tottenham are interested in bringing the Italian back to England and Sarri has been heavily tipped to replace Mourinho.

According to Sky Bet, he is now the 2/1 favourite to be the next permanent manager in N17, moving ahead of Julian Nagelsmann, Max Allegri and Brendan Rodgers in the list.

However, any bet on Sarri could very well be folly.

football.london understands that there is no truth in Spurs looking to bring Sarri to the club. Nagelsmann on the other hand does have admirers at Tottenham and the RB Leipzig boss has shown an interest in the club in the past.
