Maurizio Sarri slams Chelsea performance after holding hour-long inquest following Bournemouth loss

Maurizio Sarri revealed his bewilderment at Chelsea's 4-0 defeat to Bournemouth after they 'stopped playing' in the second half.

Sarri cleared the Chelsea changing room of his backroom staff before conducting a near hour-long post-mortem with his players following the game, but said he still could not understand the display.

With Sarri having accused his players of being hard to motivate earlier this month, opposing manager Eddie Howe had little trouble against the Blues, simply instructing his players not to worry about the visitors having possession.

After defending well before the break, Bournemouth bagged four second half goals as Chelsea imploded, leaving Sarri searching for an answer.

"In that moment I wanted to talk to them alone as I said before I needed to understand," Sarri said of keeping his squad in the changing room.

"Because it is impossible to play in such a different way first-half and second-half.

"I can't understand why I want to try again tomorrow because I want to solve this problem.

"Maybe we are not at the top of the Premier League at the moment but we are competitive.

"We cannot lose 4-0 against Bournemouth, I want to respect them and I like Eddie but it is impossible to lose here.

"Maybe it is my fault, maybe I am not able to motivate them but if the team is very strong maybe it is able to win without the coach."

The Italian was blasted with chants of 'you don't know what you're doing' when he hooked Premier League debutant Gonzalo Higuain for Olivier Giroud just after the hour mark, but Sarri brushed off their cries.

"No we have only to say sorry," he added. "We can lose but not in this way, we need to solve the problem and understand what is the problem."
