Maurizio Sarri's newest comments on Olivier Giroud's contract at Chelsea will delight fans

Olivier Giroud's contract at Chelsea comes to an end in the summer but Maurizio Sarri has revealed a clause in his deal that will delight fans hoping to see the Frenchman stay at Stamford Bridge.

The 32-year-old signed for the Blues for a reported £18million in the January of 2018 from Arsenal, putting pen to paper on an 18-month deal that is set to run out in the coming summer.

Since joining he's scored 16 goals, with 11 of those coming this season despite Sarri not believing he fits the bill of what is required in his style of football, preferring smaller strikers like Gonzalo Higuain to him.

Despite that, he's the second top scorer being Eden Hazard at Stamford Bridge this season and led the line on Wednesday night, scoring the opener in the 3-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion.

With a two-window transfer ban looming, keeping hold of Giroud for another season could prove to be vital and Sarri has revealed that the club have an option in his contract for another season.

Speaking about the Frenchman, Sarri said: “Yes, of course [I would like him to stay]. I know the club have an option for another season, so I think he will remain.”

He was then asked if he got the impression from Giroud that he wanted to stay at Chelsea, to which Sarri simply responded: “I think so.”
