Maurizio Sarri reveals injury worry over Ruben Loftus-Cheek after being subbed in Brighton win

Maurizio Sarri has revealed that Ruben Loftus-Cheek was substituted off during Chelsea's 3-0 victory as a result of a worry over the Englishman's hamstring.

The 23-year-old starred for the Blues in the win and scored a stunning goal to make sure of the three point but was taken off to a standing ovation for Mateo Kovacic with around ten minutes left in the tie.

He has suffered with a back problem all season long but Sarri spoke about how he has been without that problem for the past 20 days and has been able to train every day without that injury hampering him.

Sarri press conference: Every word on Callum Hudson-Odoi, Chelsea's win, Christensen & more

But Loftus-Cheek was taken off as a precaution over a hamstring problem, which Sarri hopes is just a cramp in his muscle, but has revealed they will check on his back on Thursday to make sure that his back problem hasn't flared up once more.

Speaking after the victory, Sarri said: "Loftus-Cheek is without his back problem for the first time this season so could train every day for the last 20 days. He played very well and scored a wonderful goal.

"After 75 minutes he had a little problem with his hamstring – nothing serious – but tomorrow I want to be sure about the situation with his back.

"That's the big problem, with his back. I have to say another thing. We are talking about Callum and Ruben, but on the pitch I was impressed by the performance of Christensen.

"I want to speak also about Christensen because, in the last period, he played five or six matches really very well."
