Maurizio Sarri responds to Gary Cahill's damning comments about the Chelsea boss

Maurizio Sarri has responded to Gary Cahill's comments where the Chelsea captain said it is hard for him to have respect for the Italian after how he has been handled this season.

The captain has barely played for the side this season but did make a cameo appearance in the 3-0 victory over Watford at Stamford Bridge in order for him to say goodbye to the fans in what was his last game at Stamford Bridge.

He won the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup during his time at the club but this season he has seen game time limited and lifted the lid on his situation prior to his final game for the side.

Chelsea fans won't like Maurizio Sarri's update on the severity of N'Golo Kante's injury

However, Sarri has claimed he doesn't know about the situation and went on to say how important Cahill had been for Chelsea this season and that he wanted to give the defender a chance to say a proper goodbye to a club he has served so faithfully.

Speaking after the win he said: “I don't know the situation, I'm sorry.

"It's not important for me. Cahill, during the season, was really very professional. He played only five, six or seven matches, but he was really very important in the training ground, in the dressing room.

"Today was his last match for Chelsea, so it was important for him to be on the pitch, only for a few minutes but I still think it was really very important for the fans and for him.

"Here, Gary won everything. And so I think he had to say goodbye to the stadium, to the fans, to the club.”
