Maurizio Sarri gives big update on David Luiz's Chelsea future

Maurizio Sarri has confirmed that David Luiz has had meetings with the Chelsea board over extending his contract with the club.

The 32-year-old's current deal with the Blues runs out this summer and with a potential transfer ban looming there is a possibility that the club will not be able to sign any more players in the next window.

Chelsea have plenty of decent players out on loan, including centre-backs Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori, who could fill that void, but Sarri is keen to keep the Brazilian at the club.

Every word Maurizio Sarri just said on benching Hazard, Luiz contract and Loftus-Cheek's impact

Having lost his place in the side under Antonio Conte, Luiz has been a regular under Sarri having started 34 Premier League matches and four times in the Europa League.

Luiz's ability on the ball has been one of the key reasons that Sarri wants to keep him, and while the Italian didn't admit he knew the outcome of the conversations, he did say that Luiz spoke to the Chelsea hierarchy.

"I don't know on David Luiz. I know that he had a meeting four or five days ago, but then my mind was on this match," Sarri said.

"I didn't ask him the result of it. If you want, I can ask tomorrow and then ring you."
