Maurizio Sarri cracks the whip as he warns Chelsea players improvements are needed

It hasn’t take long for Maurizio Sarri to crack the whip. A notoriously hard-nosed manager, the Italian has already issued a warning to his players after Chelsea’s recent 1-0 win against Perth Glory.

After overseeing a win for his first game in charge, Sarri has said that he expects his men to improve – and to do so quickly.

Pedro scored the only goal of the game against the Australian side in Monday’s pre-season friendly but Chelsea wasted a number of opportunities to increase their winning margin.

“I am satisfied by the performance in the first half and the first 15 minutes of the second half, but not the last 30 minutes,” said the former Napoli boss.

“We lost the distance between the defenders and the midfielders, but we know we have to work. We have to go back to Cobham and work very hard.

“We know we have to improve very quickly. We next play on Saturday against Inter Milan in Nice.”

Sarri admitted that, with a number of key players currently recovering from the World Cup, it would be hard for Chelsea to hit the heights he expects.

“I expect us to improve match by match. It’s not easy at this moment because we are without 12 players from the World Cup.

“It has been a difficult week with a long flight and jetlag. But, at the end of the week, I can say we have worked well, and have played a good match for 60 minutes.”
