Mauricio Pochettino 'urges Adam Lallana to leave Liverpool FC' after Man City are told to sign midfielder

Adam Lallana has reportedly been urged to leave Liverpool a week after Pep Guardiola was told the midfielder would be an ideal signing for Manchester City.

The 31-year-old has been on the periphery for Jurgen Klopp's side this season, amassing just 568 minutes of first-team football across the course of the campaign.

Lallana is not expected to be involved in Saturday's Champions League final against Tottenham and will enter the final year of his contract at Anfield in July.

It's being claimed by Football Insider that Lallana has been privately urged by the Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino to leave Anfield this summer in a bid to make the most of the final years of his career.

Pochettino and Lallana are said to be in regular contact having worked together at Southampton and the Argentine has apparently urged Lallana to move on in order to avoid stagnating.

The report comes after former City defender Danny Mills said the England playmaker would suit City's style of play.

“You almost forget about him but he is very gifted and a talented footballer,” Mills said earlier this month. “I would almost say he more fits the Man City style, he’d be perfect for them with his short, darting runs and clever runs in behind.

“Liverpool will definitely want to keep him but it might come down to him wanting to reignite his career. If that’s the case, he’s going to go. He’s such a good player he won’t be short of interested clubs.”

Lallana's last goal for Liverpool came in May 2017.
