Mauricio Pochettino to consider appealing 'completely unfair' touchline ban once FA send Tottenham details

Mauricio Pochettino will appeal his ‘completely unfair’ two-match touchline ban once the FA provide their reasons.

The Tottenham manager was given a ban by the FA after angrily confronting referee Mike Dean following their disappointing 2-1 defeat against Burnley.

Pochettino admitted he “crossed the line” with his conduct and accepted an FA charge of improper conduct.

Tottenham were shocked by the severity of his punishment given the Argentine had a perfect record in his first six years as a manager in England, and they will launch an appeal once they receive the written reasons for the ban.

Pochettino will be in the dugout for his return to Southampton on Saturday if an appeal is lodged by Friday night.

“I’m so curious to see why they decided to do what they did. A two game ban is completely unfair and I want to see why and then talk a bit more," said Pochettino.

“I am in shock,” he added. “I still think it’s unfair. I can do nothing.

“This is my seventh season in England. You can see how I’ve behaved since day one. I was always a player, coach, who wanted to help the FA. Always try to behave in my best.

“It’s my first time here when I’m not completely right in my behaviour but I feel that it’s too much. I feel a bit sad with the punishment.”

Having knocked Borussia Dortmund out of the Champions League, Spurs return to reality against Southampton as they fight to keep distance between themselves and Manchester United in fourth in the Premier League.

Dele Alli returned to first team training this week and will be available on Saturday after missing their last 10 matches through injury. “It’s good news that he’s going to be available,” said Pochettino.

“We need to wait until tomorrow and the last training session but he is doing so well and I hope he can play next Saturday.”
