Mauricio Pochettino 'tells PSG he wants to leave' as stunning Tottenham return edges closer

Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly told Paris Saint-Germain that he wants to leave the club - opening the door to a potential sensational return to Tottenham.

Rumours have grown over the past few days suggesting that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has been in contact with the Argentinean manager in a bid to try to convince him to return for a second spell in north London.

Despite the fact that Levy sacked Pochettino in November 2019, the two are thought to still have a good relationship, and Pochettino has already claimed that he would be open to going back to Spurs at some point.

There have also been claims that he has struggled to settle in France, and does not see eye-to-eye with PSG's sporting director Leonardo.

It remains to be seen how the matter is resolved, with Pochettino's current contract not ending until next year.

But according to Goal he has made it very clear that he sees his future away from the Parc des Princes, and wants to quit just under five months after taking the job.

If Spurs do wish to sign up Pochettino for the second time they are likely to face competition from Real Madrid, who are also searching for a new manager after Zinedine Zidane left earlier this week.

Pochettino has previously spoken of Madrid being a "dream" club to coach, and he may be left with a tough decision to make over where to go next.

It is believed he will require certain conditions to be met by Levy if he is to go to Spurs, such as the guarantee of a long-term contract and complete control over transfers.

Should Pochettino return to Spurs? Have your say in the comments below.

Although it would be a hugely emotional appointment, and one guaranteed to please Spurs fans, not everybody thinks it would be the correct decision.

Club legend Glenn Hoddle said on the Keys & Gray podcast: “It’s such a difficult one.

"Pochettino is a great guy, I met him on a few occasions with Ossie [Ardiles], he’s a really good football man, good at his job.

"When he went off to Paris Saint-Germain, I thought, ‘Now he is going to get his success, now he is going to get some silverware’, and he hasn’t.

“Sometimes people are destined not to be successful.

“They are very good at their jobs and excellent coaches, but other people you think, ‘Oh, they’ve had some luck’, and they get their rewards that way.

“For Daniel Levy to turn round and say, ‘I’m taking Poch back, I made a mistake, it was my fault…’ it doesn’t sound like Daniel.

“That would be a big call, a massive call.”
