Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly rocked Paris Saint-Germain chiefs with the news that he wants to quit the club.
The Argentine has been linked with the vacant positions at both his former club Tottenham as well as at Real Madrid in recent weeks.
PSG are desperate to retain Pochettino's services, despite him failing to win Ligue 1 in his first season with the French club.
But according to Paris-based publication Liberation, Pochettino's mind is made up and he wants out of France.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has been targeting Pochettino just 18 months after sacking him.
Tottenham replaced Pochettino with Jose Mourinho, but things went from bad to worse in north London, with the Portuguese eventually being sacked and taking the top job at Roma.
Pochettino would only consider a Spurs return if Harry Kane snubs a transfer away.
And Levy is confident that the England international will remain a Tottenham player if Pochettino returns to Spurs.
But Spurs and Levy face intense competition in the form of Real Madrid, who have stepped up their pursuit of the talented young manager following Zinedine Zidane's recent departure.
One saving grace for Tottenham is that Pochettino's second in command, Jesus Perez, recently confessed that the pair would return to north London in the future - although perhaps not this soon.
"Every day Daniel crossed to Mauricio's office and he joined us on the topic we were discussing," he told The Evening Standard.
"Then most of the time we had breakfast with him and lunch at the training ground. We, as a staff, never started lunch until Mauricio or Daniel was at the table. That's something we always respected.
"Mauricio and Daniel still text each other and they have a very good relationship. We don't have any bad feelings with Daniel. The other way around. It was a professional decision.
"At some point, we had to split but we will be back at Spurs for sure."
