Mauricio Pochettino stance on Chelsea transfer target revealed as Todd Boehly eyes £40m deal

Chelsea are expected to appoint Mauricio Pochettino as their next manager. The Argentine is the leading candidate to become Graham Potter's successor ahead of next season with reports suggesting an agreement could be confirmed this week.

football.london reported last month that the Blues have held positive talks with Pochettino despite there being no agreement between the two parties - yet. Todd Boehly is hoping to have a new manager in place before the summer transfer window opens as he looks to overhaul the playing squad.

With over 30 players in the senior team at present, Chelsea could raise a significant amount of funds to reinvest in key areas of the squad ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. A new goalkeeper is thought to be on the agenda with Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy both struggling to show why they deserve to be the Blues long-term No.1.

Graham Potter took the decision to drop Mendy and start Kepa in the team, but the Spaniard has still made errors this season and not performed in big moments. Liverpool and Manchester City have shown that success can be achieved by signing a world-class goalkeeper, and Chelsea are said to be considering a move for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Brentford's David Raya and Brighton's Robert Sanchez are also thought to be on the Blues' shortlist for a new goalkeeper ahead of next season. Mendy will have two years left on his Chelsea contract this summer and looks set to be one of the many players to be sold this summer.

If Pochettino is appointed, he may have his own transfer targets in mind to try and bring to the club as he looks to bring success back to Stamford Bridge. According to The Daily Mail, Chelsea have discussed signing Onana - though he is not thought to be the goalkeeper favoured by Pochettino.

Boehly will have to trust the Argentine's judgement on potential new signings after the American co-owner has spent over £600million in the last two transfer windows with many arrivals failing to perform. Pochettino has shown he is capable of bringing in players for low prices and developing them into top talents through his coaching.
