Mauricio Pochettino set to become new PSG boss after Thomas Tuchel is sacked

Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly set to become the new manager of Paris Saint-Germain after the French champions sacked Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel has been axed by the Parisians just four months after leading them to the Champions League final, where they were beaten by Bayern Munich.

Pochettino has been out of work since leaving Tottenham in November 2019 after a tricky start to the season following his own Champions League final defeat with Spurs.

But he is now in talks with PSG and is set to return to the dugout in the French capital, report RMC.

Tuchel led PSG to a 4-0 victory over Strasbourg on Wednesday night but the writing was already on the wall for the former Dortmund boss.

He leaves the Parc des Princes having won six trophies including back-to-back Ligue 1 titles in two and a half years at the helm.

Pochettino has repeatedly been linked with a move to Manchester United since leaving Spurs, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has solidified his position in the Old Trafford dugout.

The Red Devils sit third at Christmas, five points behind pace-setting Liverpool with a game in hand, and reached the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup with victory at Everton on Wednesday night.

Prior to the Strasbourg game, Tuchel had said he felt more like "a sports politician or sports minister than a coach".

After the win, he clarified: "I didn't say it's more about politics than sport, nor that I lost the fun of training. This is not true.. It is possible they translated incorrectly.

"Watch the video interview. I just said that PSG are unique and that it's a big challenge for me. It's always been like that.

"I like this challenge and nothing has changed.

"I gave a video interview to a journalist who told me to do a story about German coaches.

"It is not an interview for him. It is not allowed. I was making a joke in German. The translation is not correct. We cannot translate word for word.

"It was a joke while we were talking and it is not allowed."
